Borja and I originally met through some of his directing work and we bonded immediately over music. He suggested we do a video together sometime, so I sent him some new songs I had been working on. Before long he had put together a deck, with visual references for a much grander project that inter-weaved many of these new (and still unfinished) songs together into one piece. I was blown away.
Due to the pandemic, we set the expectation that anything we worked on would involve just the two of us—a necessary and creatively-stimulating limitation. Before we could get started on this bigger project, though, we wanted to do a test shoot, just to try and get a sense for what we were actually trying to do. We were looking to somehow capture the intimacy of live performance without an audience. We weren't sure what it would be, or look like—but that was the goal.
So, one Sunday morning the two of us went to the beach to capture few older songs of mine.
Once we took a look at the footage we loved the way that it's just a camera and a performer, the relationship between the songs and the space they were performed in. Ultimately, it feels like the mission statement for our creative work together.
We can't wait for you to see what else we've been working on.
